Expectations When I Arrive Home
What precautions should I take after I'm home?
Your physician will provide post-procedure instructions regarding diet, rest, exercise, and medications. The Center will provide you with a written summary of these instructions. We suggest that you pamper yourself for the first 24 hours following your procedure. Arrange for an adult to remain with you at home for at least 24 hours.
Since it is normal to feel drowsy after receiving an anesthetic, we also recommend that you postpone these activities for 24 hours after discharge:
1) Driving and/or operating equipment
2) Signing important papers
3) Making significant decisions
4) Drinking alcoholic beverages
If you have any unexpected problems, please call your doctor.
Please be aware that the Surgery Center does NOT provide crutches, walkers, wheel-chairs or other ambulation devices. If your physician has ordered one of these for you, you need to arrange to purchase them before you come in for surgery. The staff at your physicians office can usually recommend a place for you to purchase or lease these devices.
A nurse from the Center will attempt to call you the next day to check your progress and discuss any questions you may have.
